ResX had the privilege of serving as the official lighting partner for this year’s Melbourne International Jazz Festival at the historic Malvern Town Hall, adding our own soulful touch to one of Melbourne’s premier jazz events.
Our goal was to bring the vibrant spirit of the festival to life through innovative lighting design that complemented the incredible performances on stage.
At the heart of our setup was the Astra Hybrid 330, a versatile fixture known for its seamless combination of beam, wash, and spot capabilities. This fixture proved to be invaluable, adapting effortlessly to the evolving mood of each performance. During more intimate jazz sets, we used its soft wash feature to gently illuminate the stage, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. As the tempo picked up and the energy intensified, the Astra Hybrid 330 seamlessly transitioned to powerful beams of light, perfectly capturing the dynamic energy of the performance.
To complement the Astra Hybrid 330, we incorporated the ShowPro R2 Wash, which provided smooth wash effects and helped maintain a fluid, cohesive lighting experience. Both fixtures were controlled by the grandMA Compact XT, allowing for smooth transitions, precise control, and real-time responsiveness to the changing dynamics of the performances. The integration of these high-quality fixtures, with their quick response times and stunning colour mixing, enhanced every performance with rich depth, emotion, and visual impact.
