Vivid Sydney’s Electric Forest was a dynamic collaboration between Vivid Sydney and TAFE NSW, designed to highlight both the natural beauty of Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden and the talents of our next generation of Designers, 3D Artists, Animators and Electronic Musicians. Students from different disciplines at TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore and TAFE NSW Ultimo campus provided fresh ideas and concepts to the project and worked under seasoned industry professionals; Mark Hammer (Hammer Lighting) and Nick Tory (Ample Projects), to bring the project to life.
Electric Forest featured music, lighting design, animation and projection-mapping onto the Garden’s magnificent fig trees. This projection transformed the tree into a canvas for TAFE NSW’s 3D Art and Animation students to paint and animate with light, while exploring the biology and ecology of the gardens.
Resolution X worked with Mark Hammer, Nick Tory and TAFE NSW students to help realise their design ideas utilising a fleet of Martin MAC 700 Profiles in ShowPro AirDomes for gobo projection and narrow and wide angle ShowPro EX 36 outdoor for colour wash and Clay Paky Sharpys for beam effects. To provide decal projection and directed colour, the bright and versatile ShowPro RGBAL LED Profile FCs were mounted in custom ResX Outdoor covers to protect them from the elements. The system was controlled by one of ResX’s new compact MA on PC all-in-one systems.
Resolution X Production Manager Colin ‘Geordie’ Alexander commented “It’s always a pleasure to work with Mark Hammer and I’d like to thank Timothy Spohr (Event Manager) and Destination NSW for giving us the opportunity to work on such a unique and creative project.”
